History of ÅBEN

The brewery ÅBEN - founded in 2017 by Philip Hulgaard and Johannes Karstoft - resides in a small barn in the outskirts of Kolding, Denmark. Philip and Johannes’s friendship go years back. Once the truth hit that working day and night in front of a computer was no fun, they started the brewery. First as a hobby, since as a passion, and now a quest to always release new and flavorful beers to beer lovers.

From Earth to Table

At ÅBEN it is one of our core principles to always use the best available ingredients, and in a country where the barley is among the best in the world, why not produce your own barley (and hence malt). Thus, a large portion of all the malt we use sprouted less than a 100 meters from the brewery, and once used, it is recycled into the earth as nutrients for next years harvest.
